Our Save-the-Date Card

Our Save-the-date card is finally out! I emailed it to friends and some relatives.  I did the layout myself and am so proud of it, considering that I learned to work with Photoshop just a month ago. hehe! But I do hope you like it! =)

Anyway, since I can no longer recall what I have written before, I would just skip introductions and present you my DIY earrings and bracelets, which will be worn by my bridesmaids.

Entourage Hair-dresses... Check!

Last monday night, I was able to finish my DIY fascinators which will be worn by my bridesmaids and Matron of Honor. Friday night, I started making these hair-dresses for my flowers girls and didn't expect to finish it the same night.

I made a pair of this comb with small flowers for my eldest niece. I used the same comb I used for the fascinators but used smaller flowers.

For my 2 younger nieces, I made headbands adorned with small flowers. I really like the headbands and I think it will really look good on my nieces.

Now, may I present to you, my DIY hair-dresses for my entourage! I can't wait to see them wear these! =)

I'm already half-way thru with my entourage accessories! yey! The hair-dresses are already finished. I'm also already finished with half of the DIY bracelets and earrings. The last DIY that I need to do to complete their accessories is the clutch bag. Hopefully I can start on it next weekend. =)

Pocketfolds

As per request by my fellow w@wies, I'm sharing the step-by-step instruction on how I made my pocketfolds.

Materials for the pocketfold:

1. Paper - actually it is a board paper which is in the size of a cartolina when i bought it. I found it at Techbros Inc., one of the stores along Yuchengco St., Binondo, Manila. I have cut a 18" x 9" piece using scissors first for this project.

2. Paper Cutter - I saw this at Office Wareshouse. It is a paper cutter with 4 blades: cut, fold, wave cut, and perforate. For this project, I've used the cut, fold and wave cut.

3. Double adhesive tape - available in any bookstore. The one I used was about an inch wide just because I haven't bought yet a thinner one. hehe! A thinner one would be easier to use for this project.

4. Scissors

Instructions:

1. Since the paper I used in this project comes in the same size as a cartolina, the first thing i did was to cut it to a manageable size. for my pocket folds i'm starting at a 18" x 9" of board paper as shown above. (about 2 inches larger than my target size so that i will still have allowance for trimming the edges).

2. My paper cutter only fits up to an A4 size paper so the board paper won't fit on it lengthwise. what I did was to start at the middle of the board paper. (I just estimated where the middle is and made sure is was more or less perpetndicular to the cutter)

3. I used the "fold" blade to make a fold line at he middle of my board paper.

4. I then folded the paper on the "fold" line I just made. use a bone folder or the flat sides of a scissors to flatten the folds.

5. I returned the already folded paper to the cutter, this time, aligning the flolded area at the at the edge the paper cutter. (this makes sure that the sides will be perfectly perpendicular with the fold you just made)

6. I trimmed both sides of the board paper by using the "straight" blade. the width of your pocketfold will depend on what will be the size of your invites. in my case, the width of my pocketfold is 7 inches, because I intend to use a 6 3/4 by 5 inches card for the main invite.

7. The next step is to create the outer flap and the pocket. The upper half is where the outer flap will be and the lower half is where the pocket will be. to create the outer flap on the upper half of the board paper, measure on the paper cutter 5 1/4 inches from the center fold. then, use the "fold" blade to make a fold line 5 1/4 inches from the center fold. From that new fold line, measure 3 inches, which will serve as your outer flap, and then cut it. you can use the "straight" blade or the "wave" blade to cut the edge of the flap.

8. Do the same for the lower half of the board to create the pocket, but this time measure 5 inches only from the centerfold, then 3 inches for the pockets. you can also use the "straight" blade or the "wave" blade to cut the edge of the flap that will be folded into a pocket.

9. Now, that everything is marked with fold lines and all sides cut, it's now time to fold away. fold the lower flap, upper flap and the center fold. use a bone-folder or edge of scissors to flatten the folds well.

10. To make the pockets, use a double adhesive tape. cut a thin strip of double adhesive tape and stick it to the side edges of the lower flap intended to serve as pockets. it depends on you how thin you want your adhesives, but you must consider the size of the inserts that you want to put on the pocket. (i am intending to use a 4 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches cards for my Reception and Entourage cards that will be inserted in the pocket, so i used about a 1/8 inch strip of double adhesive tape. my main invite will be in 6 3/4 by 5 inches size and will be pasted / glued / sticked inside of the 7 by 5 1/4 inches area just below the outer flap)

11. do the same to the edges opposite the side pocket edges.

12. Remove the protective paper of the double adhesive tape and fold the pocket flap up to bring the side edges together. use a bone-folder or edge of scissors to press on the adhesive. you must use double adhesives in both opposite sides of the paper you are joining, to have a better hold.

Now you have your pocketfold. you can use your creativity on the belly bands or seals of your pocket fold. mine was created using a wide ribbon and a piece of 2x2 board paper where i will be putting our seal or monogram.

I cannot show you a finish product with the inserts in it as i have not yet made the inserts.

I hope my instructions were easy to understand and helpful to those who wanted to make their own pocketfolds. please feel free to leave a comment or ask questions regarding this project. =)

Fascinator for my Bridesmaids and Matron of Honor

Originally, I didn't plan to have my female entourage wear fascinators. but after suggestions of my w@w sisters when they voted for the dress style for my bridesmaids, I realized that the fascinator would really look good on my bridesmaids with the dress that I have chosen for them. For about a month I searched through the net to find DIY fascinators "how-to", because at that time, i was not really sure what a fascinator is made of and what was its purpose. After gathering enough information, I then searched for materials. I went several times to Welmanson and Morning Glory to find materials for my DIYs. I am now sharing here how I made my DIY Fascinator.

Materials:

1. Flowers - The flower I used for this was bought from Welmansons. I originally chose a larger flower, but when I went back to welmanson with sis janice and her h2b jake, we found these flowers. It costs Php 280.00 per box of 12.

The flowers originally has a pin and a ponytail band attached at the back, so I removed them.

2. Feathers - I used 2 kinds of feather for this project. The pink ones and the green ones. Both from welmanson in divisoria. since our motif is deep pink with accents of green, the green ones I bought was thinner and more delicate than the pink ones. The pink ones were priced at Php 50.00 for 100 pcs. The green ones on the other hand, was priced per gram, and forgive me for I can't recall anymore how much I paid for it.

3 Comb - also from welmanson. priced at Php 24.00 for 12 pcs.

How to:

1. For this project i decided to use one flower, 3 pink feathers and 2 green feathers. After I removed the pin and ponytail band attached at the back of the flower, I laid the flower and the feathers on the table arranging it to how i want it to look like.

2. Next, I wanted to glue the feathers to the flower but I don't have my glue gun, so I got a needle and a thread and tied a knot at the end of the thread. I stitched the feathers I arranged to the center of the back of the flower. I think it doesn't matter what stitch you use at this point as along as you only stitch the back center of the flower and not the petals. Make sure also that the feathers are secured and doesn't fall-off or get pulled easily. If you think that the feathers are still loosely secured, just keep on stitching until you're sure that they are already secured in place.

3. When the feathers are already assembled according to the style you want. it's time to stick them to the comb. again, I was supposed to used glue gun but the resources available to me is the needle and thread. so I used them again in attaching the flower and feathers to the comb. I stitched the flower and feathers arrangement to the outer part of the comb, with the feathers pointing upwards, while the comb is pointing downward.

After i have secured the flowers and feathers to the comb, huuaaala! I already have a fascinator for my bridesmaids. but as a reminder, always have a mirror by your side while you're doing this. this is for you to see not only whether the fascinator would look good, but also to know whether it will work and will not fall apart when you put it in your hair. =)
